Database upgrade
Scheduled Maintenance Report for Simplero
Postmortem

The total downtime was 2 bouts of about 3 minutes each, for each of the upgrades to first MariaDB 10.1 then 10.2.

The upgrade to PostgreSQL 10 from version 9 had no downtime, because we only use PostgreSQL for logging, and we’ve engineered our system such that a downtime for PostgreSQL doesn’t result in an outage of the Simplero application.

All went well. When MariaDB 10.3 and PostgreSQL 11 are available, we’ll probably upgrade to those sooner.

Update
The upgrade from MariaDB 10.0 to 10.1 is complete. Looks like we had about 2-3 minutes of actual downtime, though the process as a whole took about 35 minutes.

I've now started the upgrade to MariaDB 10.2, which completes that part of the process.

I'm going to also upgrade our PostgreSQL installation from 9.x to 10.x now that we're at it.

Scheduled
We're upgrading our database to the latest version. I don't expect much of a downtime, or many complications, but better safe than sorry, you know?
